new instructor orientation

All new instructors at Lethbridge College are required to participate in new instructor orientation workshops to help prepare you to teach at the college. These workshops provide valuable learning opportunities as well as providing an opportunity to connect with other new instructors and the Centre for Teaching, Learning & Innovation (CTLI). All staff members at Lethbridge College are welcome to attend the workshops.

teaching squares

Teaching Squares provide an opportunity for colleagues to observe each other in action, reflect on their own practice and meet to share their ideas and thoughts. Four faculty members from different areas visit each other’s classes once over the semester. At the end of the semester, they spend some time discussing what they learned about their practice through the observation process while enjoying lunch on us!.

Instructor certification program

Lethbridge College is committed to supporting the professional development of its employees. To ensure high quality learning opportunities for students, investment is made with all faculty through the training and support of quality instructional practices and theory. The Instructor Certification Program (ICP) is an 18 credit program offered at Lethbridge College for all instructors. Faculty and staff who complete the program may apply to graduate with a Credential of Academic Achievement. Although it is an employment requirement for continuing full time and part time instructors, as per the Faculty Collective Agreement, all college employees are welcome to take these courses when space is available.

Peer observation

Peer Observation is the process used at Lethbridge College for the evaluation and development of continuing academic staff members (Section 10.4 of the Collective Agreement for the Faculty Association). The Peer Observation process encourages building a reflective practice and professional growth. The resources listed below provide faculty members who are up for evaluation during this academic year an overview of the process and planning information. You can register for Peer Observation using Bridge, or contact PD@lethbridgecollege.ca for more information.

Mid semester chats

Mid-semester chats or "Small Group Instructional Diagnosis (SGID)" is a process that allows instructors to gain insights into student's perceptions about the class and their learning. Mid-semester chats encourage instructors to reflect on their practice, engage their students and make any adjustments as needed, enhancing instruction and student learning. Mid-semester chats take place between weeks 5 - 9 of the semester.
